Recap: A Robot Dance-Off Averted?

Universal Pictures

YO! Eminem in 2002’s “8-Mile.”  (Universal Pictures)

Congratulations to the “Jolly Jokers” — winners of the Trivia Ninjas Trivia Night Challenge at Zaffiro’s Pizzeria and Bar at the Marcus Parkwood 17 complex in Waite Park on Wednesday, September 4th, 2013.

The Jokers had a slow start, finishing in 9th place after the first round. But they climbed to 4th after Round Two thanks to getting 9-of-10 right that round, including a 250 pointer. After Round Three, they got another 9-of-10 correct, giving them the lead by just 41 points.

A perfect Round Four (including the Classic Country audio round) and Vikings visual round sealed the deal.

But it was the battle for second place that was closer than anyone may have realized at the time. “Browncoats” and “Moonlight Becomes You Darkness Even More” were tied for second place after Round 3 at 1,952 points — just 41 points behind the front-runner “Jolly Jokers.” Visions of another robot dance-off danced in Ninja Pete’s head.

But it was not to be.

“Moonlight” aced the visual round, identifying all 10 of our Vikings images. And when the dust settled, “Moonlight” was solidly in second place by 570 points.

The final scores for those finishing the night:

1. 4,196 — Jolly Jokers
2. 3,833 — Moonlight Becomes You Darkness Even More

SUPER NINJA SECOND CHANCE CHALLENGE

Powered by St. Cloud Overhead Door Company

Our winners had the great honor of drawing our Super Ninja contestant for the night, and they selected “Twitterverse Hotties” to play for a $25 Zaffiro’s/Marcus Theatres gift card.

The question:

Some think it’s a travesty. Some think it was a smart move before losing him to free agency. Some are just sad the Minnesota Twins traded Justin Morneau to Pittsburgh. Whatever your thoughts, we hope you know a little about this 32-year-old, 4-time Major League All-Star from British Columbia.

We want to know:

1. What position did Justin Morneau play for the Minnesota Twins?
2. What nickname was given to the team of Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer?
3. It’s weird to see Justin Morneau in a Pirates uniform where he wears what number?”

And even before the overly dramatic rave music was done, Twitterverse spit-out the correct answers, which were:

1. first base
2. the M & M Boys
3. 36

Congrats, you Hotties!
