Recap: Screams of Joy for New Monday Night Champ

Pixar

Pixar

Actually, there wasn’t much screaming, but there was lots of thinking last night at the Trivia Ninjas Trivia Night Challenge at Zaffiro’s Pizzeria and Bar at the Marcus Parkwood 17 complex in Waite Park.

And in the end, trivia afficionados Toonces walked away with $50 in Zaffiro’s and Marcus Theatres gift cards.

A Trivia Hog in Round 1 and FIVE Near Hogs throughout the contest — including a perfect Round 3 — put them on top by just 84 points.

Here are the final scores:

1. 6,025 — Toonces
2. 5,941 — BRAAAINS!! BRAAAINS!!
3. 4,591 — The Trivia Shutdown
4. 3,941 — Team A.M.
5. 2,150 — Freakin’ Awesome
6. 850 — Just the Tip

THE TALE OF THE TAPE

TRIVIA HOGS (500 pointers)

Round 1, Question 2 (General trivia)
BRAAAINS!! BRAAAINS!! knew “sushi” refers to rice — not raw fish or BRAAAINS!! for that (gray) matter.

Round 1, Question 4 (General trivia)
What one team knew the state capital building in Santa Fe is made entirely of adobe? The Trivia Shutdown, that’s who!

Round 1, Question 7 (Mel Blanc characters)
Bidi, Bidi, Bidi. Toonces knew the soundbite was Mel Blanc creating the voice of Twiki. Dr. Theopolis would be proud.

NEAR HOGS (250 pointers)

Round 1, Question 8 (Mel Blanc characters)
Toonces and Team A.M. must have had their bowls of cereal in front the television Saturday mornings to watch Speed Buggy.

Round 2, Question 8 (Trivia Grab Bag)
Who actually read Catch-22 in high school? Apparently BRAAAINS!! BRAAAINS!! and The Trivia Shutdown.

Round 3, Question 8 (Toys)
Toonces and Just the Tip knew — or at least, correctly guessed — the correct fast food joint that recalled those Pokeballs.

Round 4, Question 7 (Fire songs)
BRAAAINS!! BRAAAINS!! and Toonces knew The Cult sing “Fire Woman” — but they can play air-drums on this song in the car as well as my wife? I think not.

Round 4, Question 9 (Fire songs)
BRAAAINS!! BRAAAINS!! and Toonces have street cred after ID’ing the performers of “Fire Water Burn” as the Bloodhound Gang. Burn mother-HE-HAW, burn!

Visual Round, Question 1 (Disney villains)
This was hard, I thought. But Team A.M. and Freakin’ Awesome knew Chick Hicks, the villain from Cars.

Visual Round, Question 4 (Disney villains)
Everyone knows the bad guy from Monsters, Inc. But only Toonces and Team A.M. remembered his name — Mr. Waternoose.

Visual Round, Question 7 (Disney villains)
Old school kudos for BRAAAINS!! BRAAAINS!! and Freakin’ Awesome for knowing Prince John from Disney’s Robin Hood, circa 1973.

SKUNKS (No pointers)

Round 1, Question 3 (General trivia)
I didn’t know Louis Pasteur perfected the rabies vaccine, either.

Round 4, Question 2 (Vampires)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer lives in Sunnydale. Duh.

PERFECT ROUNDS

Round 3 (Finish the nursery rhyme, Toys)

SUPER NINJA SECOND CHANCE CHALLENGE

Brought to you by St. Cloud Overhead Door Company

Each week, we give a non-first place team the chance to win a $25 Zaffiro’s/Marcus gift card by answering a series of questions correctly. This week’s winners, Toonces, drew Team A.M. to go head-to-head with Ninja Pete.

Here’s their question:

Thomas the Tank Engine is a fictional steam locomotive in The Railway Series books by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry. The accompanying television series, Thomas & Friends, returns to PBS this week and is the subject of this week’s Super Ninja Second Chance Challenge.

The questions:

1. What color is Thomas the Tank Engine?

2. What is the name of the island where Thomas and his friends live?

3. Who voiced the character of Mr. Conductor in Series One through Four for the U.S.?

Unfortunately, Team A.M. only correctly answered the first question.

Here are all the answers:

1. Blue
2. Sodor
3. George Carlin
