Recap: Toonces and Twinkies and Minions — Oh, My!

There’s a new sheriff in town — and their name is Toonces. As in the SNL cat that drives off cliffs? Randy and Becky Tenvoorde and their team — in only their second recent appearance at the Trivia Ninjas Trivia Night Challenge at Zaffiro’s Pizzeria and Bar — won.

And by 437 points. How? They scored big points on questions that only one, two or three other teams got. And all those 250, 167 and 125 point questions paid off, especially when they only missed 10 questions in the contest.

The race for second place was much tighter. There were 89 points separating 2nd place from 5th place.

Here are the final scores.

1. 3,292 — Toonces
2. 2,855 — Browncoats
3. 2,824 — My Cat’s Breath Smells Like Cat Food
4. 2,784 — Jolly Jokers
4. 2,766 — It’s Snowden in Russia? It’s HOT in Minnesota
6. 2.718 — Stingrays
7. 2,618 — Steel Curtain
8. 2,205 — The “M” is Silent
9. 1,868 — And then there were Three
10. 1,071 — The Bee’s Knees

SUPER NINJA SECOND CHANCE CHALLENGE

Our winner, Toonces, drew And Then There Were Three (of Four) to go mano a mano in the Super Ninja Second Chance Challenge. Up for grabs — a $25 Zaffiro’s gift card.

Their question:

In the two weeks Despicable Me 2 has been out, some 25-million people have seen it in the U.S. alone. Are you among that number? We hope so. At the end of the movie, there is a celebration. Gru’s henchmen dress up as a band that was popular in the late seventies and perform a song.

We want to know:
— what are the henchmen called,
— what is they band they dress as,
— what is the song they perform?

Bobby from And Then There Were Three (or Four) got two of the three answers right, but he didn’t know the band.

The correct answers:

— Minions
— The Village People
— Y.M.C.A.

So the $25 gift card lives to fight another day.

CORRECTION

We have a mea culpa. My Cat’s Breath Smells Like Cat Food correctly pointed out to us after the contest that John Lennon did NOT provide the voice-over for his cartoon likeness in the movie “Yellow Submarine.” John Clive did. We threw out the question and gave everybody points for that one. And that moved My Cat’s Breath into 3rd place for the night. Sorry, Jokers.

FINALLY

Hope you enjoyed the Twinkies, fresh from WalMart store shelves. We thought it was appropriate to celebrate with you their return. Did you notice they’re a little smaller than before? And they look like Minions? Coincidence? I think not.

We’ll be back next Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at Zaffiro’s Pizzeria and Bar in the Marcus Parkwood 17 complex in Waite Park.

Until then, see you at the movies.
