It was the closest finish yet. Even closer than Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke on the VMAs.
Only four points separated the first- and second-place teams in the Trivia Ninjas Trivia Night Challenge at Zaffiro’s Pizzeria and Bar at the Marcus Parkwood 17 complex in Waite Park on Wednesday.
In the end, the Twitterverse Hotties held onto a ever-so-slim lead to beat back the Jolly Jokers.
Twitterverse Hotties never trailed in Wednesday night’s contest. But it took a trivia hog in the third round to propel the Jokers into striking distance. And despite Round 4 heroics, the Jokers could only get within four points of Twitterverse.
Well done, everyone. And congratulations on avoiding a dance-your-ass-off tie-breaker.

THE TALE OF THE TAPE
TRIVIA HOGS
Round 3, Question 3 (Readin’, ‘Ritin’, and ‘Rithematic)
Only the Browncoats knew that an “obelus” is a fancy name for a division sign (÷). 500 points because someone on that team stayed awake in math class.
Round 3, Question 4 (Readin’, ‘Ritin’, and ‘Rithematic)
Congratulations, Fresh Meat! You knew the “absolute value” is the distance between a number and its origin. The absolute value of that knowledge? 500 points!
Round 3, Question 9 (The State Fair on a Stick)
The Jolly Jokers knew Dr. Seuss was the inspiration for “Floralpalooza” in the Horticultural Building. That was good for a 500 point hog!
NEAR HOGS (250 POINTERS)
Round 2, Question 1 (Trivia in the Making)
Miley’s Foam Finger and Evil Thoughts each got 250 points for knowing North Dakotans lead the nation in per capita beer consumption.
SKUNKS
Round 1, Question 2 (General Tsao’s Chicken)
Really? No one knew Norway’s King knighted the “King Penguin” as the mascot of the King’s Guard?
Round 3, Question 7 (State Fair on a Stick)
The area between the stage and the patio at the State Fair Grandstand is called “The Plaza.” Now you know.
Round 3, Question 10 (State Fair on a Stick)
The State Fair gopher mascot is “Fairchild.” His nephew is “Fairborne.” He must have entered the world at the “Miracle of Birth Center.” (Get it? Fair Borne.)

SUPER NINJA SECOND CHANCE CHALLENGE
Powered by St. Cloud Overhead Door Company
Our winners — Twitterverse Hotties — were nice enough to randomly draw Steel Curtain as the Super Ninja contestants, playing for a $25 Zaffiro’s gift card.
Their question:
“Oh, my goodness, we hope you’ve recovered from the childhood killing performance of Miley Cyrus during the MTV Video Music Awards. We pretty sure sales of foam fingers are about to skyrocket. So if you watched it, you’ve got an edge in our Super Ninja Second Chance Challenge.
Sunday night, MTV broadcast its awards show for videos, ironic for a network that doesn’t show videos. Social media lit up with nearly 3,000 tweets a minute during Miley Cyrus’s gig. We want you to answer the following questions about that raunchy weird performance.
1. At the end of her song, they transitioned into another mega-hit by the next performer. Name the guy in the prison stripe suit who sang a sort of duet of his song with Miley.
2. Give us the slang term for the rump-jiggling dance move she laid on him during the song. This term was just added to the Oxford Dictionary last week.
3. When she wasn’t being rowdy Hanna Montana, what was Miley’s character’s last name in her former Disney series?”
Gene from Steel Curtain got the first two answers right, but didn’t know Hannah Montana was “Miley Stewart” by day.
The answers:
— Robin Thicke
— twerk
— Stewart
Until next Wednesday, September 4th at 6:30 p.m., see you at the movies!
