We had the time of our lives at the Wednesday night edition of the Trivia Ninjas Trivia Night Challenge at Zaffiro’s Pizzeria and Bar and Marcus Parkwood 17 in Waite Park.
And when it ended, the Family Guy Reference Team — called “Official Flower Business” this time — ended up on top, thanks to Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Or should we say Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes?
Flower Business had a Trivia Hog when they were the only ones to know Medley and Warnes sang “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” Congrats!
Here’s how it ended:
1. 3,337 — Official Flower Business
2. 2,736 — Browncoats
3. 2,603 — Angry Lunchables
4. 2,508 — Second Coming
5. 2,290 — Trivia, Not Just for Mondays Anymore
6. 2,196 — Toonces
7. 2,081 — The Deficit Model
8. 1,903 — Jolly Jokers
9. 1, 168 — O H (I O)
10. 1,165 — Adrift Ruderless Upon a Sea of Trivial Possibilities

THE TALE OF THE TAPE
TRIVIA HOGS (500 pointers)
Round 4, Question 9 (Audio – Duets)
No one puts Official Flower Business in a corner! They knew Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes sang, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.”
NEAR HOGS (250 pointers)
Round 1, Question 2 (General trivia)
Dr. John Pemberton invented Coca-Cola in 1886. Browncoats and Angry Lunchables were rewarded 250 points each for knowing that. I’ll drink to that!
Round 3, Question 1 (Odd words)
Official Flower Business and Second Coming sound like they have some personal experiences with “dysania” — or the problem of waking or getting out of bed.
Round 3, Question 4 (Odd words)
It sounds naughty, but “peladophobia” really is being afraid of baldies. For Angry Lunchables and Official Flower Business, Patrick Stewart and Avery Brooks were NOT their favorite Star Trek captains.
Round 3, Question 7 (Hobbies)
We’re not saying anyone has a drinking problem, but Official Flower Business and Second Coming knew “helixophiles” collect corkscrews. But that feels less like a hobby and more like a diagnosis, doesn’t it?
Visual Round, Question 1 (Space helmets)
In space, no one can hear you scream…unless you lift up your plexiglass screen like Dennis Quaid in “Enemy Mine.” Trivia, Not Just for Mondays Anymore and The Deficit Model correctly identified that movie.
Visual Round, Question 6 (Space helmets)
The helmet used in 2000’s “Mission to Mars” is distinctive — but not widely recognized. So, Browncoats and Jolly Jokers — you’re out of this world!
SKUNKS (No pointers)
Round 1, Question 9 (90 TV Theme Songs)
No one could identify the theme song from “My So-Called Life.” Too bad. It’s got a good beat and it’s easy to dance to.
Round 3, Question 5 (Odd words)
@%^*(@#&$!!! No one knew the name for cartoon swearing is “grawlix.”
Visual Round, Question 5 (Space helmets)
Really? No one could put their finger on 1951’s “Flight to Mars” with the distinctive pastel onesies? Sigh.
PERFECT ROUNDS
Round 2 (Trivia in the Making, Trivia Grab-Bag)
Trivia, Not Just for Monday’s Anymore
SUPER NINJA SECOND CHANCE CHALLENGE
Powered by St. Cloud Overhead Door Company
Each contest, we offer a non-winning team the opportunity to win a $25 Zaffiro’s/Marcus gift card by answering the “Super Ninja.”
This week’s winners — Official Flower Business — randomly drew Browncoats to face-off against Ninja Pete in the Super Ninja.
The questions were:
This weekend’s big movie “Gravity” puts Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in great peril after their space shuttle is destroyed. SPACE is the subject of this week’s Super Ninja Second Chance Challenge.
1. What city is the home of NASA’s Mission Control?
2. Astronauts had to install corrective lenses on what satellite in low-Earth orbit in 1993?
3. What’s the name of the type of Russian space capsule used to return crew members to Earth from the International Space Station?
And wouldn’t you know it — the supernerds on Browncoats knew all three answers. What did Browncoat Frank Lee of the St. Cloud Times correctly answer?
1. Houston
2. Hubble Telescope
3. Soyuz
FINALLY…
The Trivia Ninjas Trivia Night Challenge is now happening twice a week at Zaffiro’s Pizzeria and Bar — Monday AND Wednesday nights, both at 6:30 p.m. Each week we’re presenting two separate contests with different questions for each. So, if you want to join us for one or both, we’re happy to have you! And please tell your trivia-minded friends and enemies. A healthy trivia community makes for good competition and helps assure Trivia Nights continue for your Ninjas.
Next up — Monday Night Trivia, Ninja-style at 6:30 p.m. at Zaffiro’s on October 7, 2013. Check back here or on Facebook for hints and a free question on Monday morning. And of course, we’ll be back on Wednesday, October 9th.
Until then, see you at the movies.
